DU’s men’s and women’s golf squads had the privilege of escaping a blustery Colorado weekend in exchange for warmer, greener pastures.

The men’s squad placed third overall at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Tournament on Feb. 22. Meanwhile, the women’s team played in the first round of the Tulane All-State Sugar Bowl Invitational on the same day

The Pioneer men were tied for third after the second day, with a total score of five strokes over par. They trailed leader Texas Tech University by 18 strokes, and after a rally on the third and final day of play, the Pioneers fell short by two strokes. Texas Tech won the tournament, shooting 9-under-par.

Denver sophomore Petter Mikalsen led the way for the men, placing third overall and 5-under-par. Freshman and Colorado native Chris Korte shot the best score in the final day of the tournament –a 67.

Through the first round of the women’s All-State Sugar Bowl Invitational, Louisiana State University was the only team to break par. The Pioneers tied for 12th at 22-over-par. Junior Isabel Southard led the team with a score of 3-over-par.

The women will travel to the University of Florida Gator Invitational on March 6, as the men’s team prepares to head to Long Beach, California for the Del Walker Intercollegiate Tournament on March 2.
