This week The Clarion sat down with DU hockey goalie Tanner Jaillet.

Q: How did you come to play at DU?

A: It was my last year playing in the Junior Canadian Hockey League. I had a few other options for schools, but DU seemed like the best option, especially with the coaching staff.

Q: How was the transition coming to college?
A: Moving away from home wasn’t a big change because with Junior [League], you travel around a lot. The level of hockey was faster and the guys are much stronger. Getting back into classes was pretty tough, though.

Q: What was the preseason like?
A: Off-season is all in the gym and skates. Preseason we have to play two games against a Canadian school, but after that we just jump right into the season.

Q: How has it been training under Evan Cowley?
A: He’s definitely a good goalie, but we mostly compete against each other. He’s definitely given me some good tips and it makes practice a lot harder having him to compete against.

Q: What has been your favorite game so far?
A: The game I got to play in Cornell was a highlight for me. The rink was cool and their student section was good. I ended up playing pretty well.

Q: This past week you were chosen as the NCHC Goalie of the Week. What does that honor mean to you?
A: I was kind of shocked actually, but it’s nice to get recognized. I had a lot of help with my team this weekend.

Q: What are your goals for college?
A: I want to win a National Championship. We all do. After college, I want to play professional hockey.

Q: Professionally, what would be your “dream team”?
A: New York Rangers because I’d want to live in New York.
