Though school has begun, summer doesn’t officially end until Friday. With only four days left and summer grinding to an unfortunate halt, the calendar is still bursting with these estival upcoming events to get you ready for fall:

“A DAY IN POMPEII” Museum of Nature and Science

A Day in Pompeii opens today at the Museum of Nature and Science. After gaining much popularity in New York City, Cincinnati and Boston, this anticipated exhibit has finally landed in Denver.

A full synopsis of daily life, religious beliefs, recreational activities and the final hours will be displayed for all visitors. Even more intriguing, historical enactors will be roaming the exhibit, conveying their own stories from unique perspectives.

RED ROCKS AMPHITHEATRE

For all of you concertgoers, Red Rocks Amphitheatre is still attracting the biggest names on the planet. A few noteworthy shows remain on the list until the season ends after Sept 30, but hurry and grab your tickets fast, as these shows are almost sold out.

Wednesday Sept. 19  Grammy Award-winning band Train kicks of their first U.S. tour under the Colorado sky. The following day, Devotchka and The Airborne Toxic Event and the Colorado Symphony collaborate to construct an “orchestral appearance of epic proportions,” according to the Red Rocks website.
Last but not least, fedora superstar Jason Mraz has two back-to-back shows on Sept. 24 and 25. You can snag some tickets from redrocksonline.com or check out the ever-fruitful Craigslist.

DIRTY GIRL MUD RUN
May Farms

If you’re looking to get back into shape for fall and get a little dirty, look no further. On Saturday Sept. 22, May Farms in Denver will be hosting the Dirty Girl Mud Run. This year’s slogan: “It’s like a day at the spa, except way more therapeutic.”

Don’t hesitate to register; gather your friends and get ready to conquer water pits, cargo nets, hanging tires, mud crawls and mud climbs.

This 5k race is not necessarily a “race” in a traditional sense, but an untimed obstacle course designed for women of all ages and athletic ability.

Above all, this event donates a percentage of registration fees to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Last year they raised over $50,000. This year, that goal has increased to over $250,000. Register a team today at www.godirtygirl.com.

Leaves are changing, the air is getting cooler and only a few warm days remain. This upcoming Sunday Sept. 23, Yoga Rocks the Park is hosting its last event of the year at Cheesman Park. Living Beyond Breast Cancer will be sponsoring the event for the eighth year in a row. This year’s goal is to raise $70,000 in order to continue to empower all women affected by breast cancer to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
