It’s that wonderfully-spooky time of year again — full of candy, scary movies and, of course, costumes. If midterms kept you a little preoccupied from prepping the perfect Halloween getup, no need to stress. The Clarion is here to make sure you have the perfect outfit for the festivities coming at the end of the month. Check out these easy-to-make costumes and limit your stress to the things actually worth stressing about.

For the ladies:

The Schoolgirl

This is a classic Halloween costume, but, if you’re in a scramble, it’s perfect. All you really need are things you ladies, or your roommates, probably already have in your closets.

Start with a skirt, plain or plaid. Then grab a button down shirt, which can be styled to your preference, and throw some pens in the chest pocket. If you have some old sunglasses, pop out the lenses and you have the perfect spectacles to look extra studious.

Pigtails or braids are good hairstyles to bring back memories of your parents doing your hair in elementary school. To finish off the outfit, any tennis shoes paired with some tall socks will do the trick.

For the guys:

The Lumberjack

If you own jeans, a flannel and a beanie, this costume is for you. To upgrade the outfit, add a wife beater, suspenders or work boots.

To style this costume, you’ll need to put the flannel on over the wife beater and button it up, but allow some of the wife beater to show. Tuck your flannel into your jeans, and if you want to add the suspenders, clamp those on over your flannel. Lace up those work boots nice and tight for the night ahead, pull on the beanie and you’re ready to tear up (or down) the Halloween weekend.

“The Lumberjack” is a simple outfit for any costume procrastinator.

For anyone:

The Nudist on Strike

If you absolutely have no other options for a creative costume, the nudist on strike is for you. All you need is a piece of cardboard, a marker and string. On the cardboard, you can write in bold letters “NUDIST ON STRIKE.” Hold the sign, or tape string to the back so the sign hangs around your neck. This easy costume will make you look witty and creative, even if you made it minutes before going out.

Where’s Waldo?

With a Waldo costume, you’ll certainly be able to be found. First, you’ll need a red striped shirt. To completely embody Waldo, pair this with some blue jeans and tennis shoes. Then you can punch out the lenses of some glasses, or wear your regular glasses. To look exactly like Waldo you’re going to need a red striped beanie, but any colored beanie will do the job. Congrats, you have successfully dressed as Waldo. This Halloween, hopefully everyone can spot you in a crowd.

Shark Week

If you and some friends want a group costume, this will be easy to make. You’re going to need a person for everyday of the week, so gather six friends. All you will need are white t-shirts, markers, cardboard, string and gray paint.

Within your group, you’ll have to decide who wants to be what day of the week and then write that day on the t-shirt with the marker.

After that, you will all have to construct a shark fin to wear on your back. You can find stencils of shark fins online, or you can hand sketch them. You’ll cut the shark fins out of the cardboard and paint them gray, or fashion them out of gray construction paper and cardboard. After the paint has dried, you can punch holes in the cardboard and attach the string so it’s like you’re wearing the shark fin as a backpack. Put those shirts and fins on and you have successfully become the infamous Shark Week.
