On May 8, DU announced the plan to rededicate Buchtel Tower through a DU Digest email sent to the DU community. The rededication is set to take place at the Buchtel Memorial Tower on May 28 at 4 p.m.

“The rededication ceremony will feature remarks from Army Fellow Michael Oster, Associate Provost Barbara Wilcots and Chancellor Rebecca Chopp,” said Damon Vine, veterans services coordinator of the DU Veterans Services. “The ceremony will last 30 minutes and will be followed by a reception from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Estlow Gardens directly south of the Buchtel Memorial Tower.”

Buchtel Tower has been a part of DU for almost a century. According to the announcement in the DU Digest email, “The Buchtel Chapel was constructed to provide the University of Denver with a chapel that could hold large religious and secular assemblies. Completed in 1917, it was first called the Memorial Chapel, in honor of those students who died serving their country during World War I. Sadly, a fire destroyed the chapel in 1983, and only one of the original four towers, Buchtel Memorial Tower, stands today.”

All DU students, staff, faculty and community members are invited to attend this historic event. Anyone interested in attending must RSVP through the DU Veterans Services website at www.du.edu/veterans.
