Colorado Rockies to honor 2017 ice hockey champion Pioneers

When the DU hockey team captured their eighth national title by defeating University of Minnesota-Duluth, the neighboring Colorado Rockies took a mid-game break to recognize the achievement on their jumbotron.

On Thursday, May 11, the DU hockey team will again be honored by the Rockies for winning the 2017 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Championship, but this time the team will be in attendance. The Pioneers players and Head Coach Jim Montgomery will appear for pregame festivities in celebration of their achievement.

Part of the tribute will include Montgomery, college hockey’s top coach as the Penrose Award-winner, throwing out the game’s ceremonial first pitch.

The Rockies’ contest versus the Los Angeles Dodgers will take place at 6:40 p.m. MT.
