DU’s men’s and women’s tennis programs began spring competition over the weekend on Jan. 20 and 21, returning with successful performances.

The men’s program travelled to Boise, Idaho to compete against the Boise State Broncos at Idaho’s Eagle Tennis Club. The Denver Pioneers claimed three singles victories and two doubles wins.

Senior Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal), junior Jesse Ruder-Hook (Denver, Colorado) and freshman Pedro Fernandez Del Valle (Newport Beach, California) collected multiple wins in singles and doubles matches.

The men’s program will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Jan. 27 through Jan. 29 to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off event. The team will begin the event by competing against Old Dominion University.

The women’s program competed in the Hurricane Invite in Tulsa, Oklahoma from Jan. 20 through Jan. 22. The Pioneers dominated the competition, winning six singles and seven doubles matches.

Senior Maureen Slattery (Newport News, Virginia), junior Julia O’Loughlin (Highland Beach, Florida) and sophomore Bianca Mok (Boise, Idaho) boasted successful performances in singles and doubles play. 

The women’s program will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the ITA Kick-Off event on Jan. 27 through Jan. 29 to continue their spring season competition.
