This week, the Clarion sat down with hockey player Dylan Gambrell.

Q: How did you end up coming to DU?

A: When I was 14, I moved here to play for the Colorado Thunderbirds. My coach actually went here. We went to a couple games and I really liked it. We started talking eventually and that was when I decided where to go to college, so I came here.

Q: So you played under Coach Montgomery before with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in Iowa. What is it like to have him as a coach again?

A: It’s great. I kind of knew what to expect when I came in because I had had him before. I really like him as a coach and as a guy, so it worked out perfectly.

Q: How do you find yourself fitting in with the team off of the ice?

A: We all get along really well. Obviously the freshmen kind of stay together and we get along really well. Everyone is a good guy and we click well together.

Q: You are currently leading the team in points and doing an all -around great job in your first season. How is it to be leading the team?

A: It’s awesome. The guys all help out a lot with that. I mean, Danton Heinen really helps out and he’s a great player, but everyone helps out a lot.

Q: You’re actually listed on the NHL’s scouting midterm rankings at #149. The draft is not until June, but how are you feeling about that prospect?

A: It’s pretty cool, but I try not to think about that too much. I have to stay focused on every game. It’s cool to have that, but we just have to be focused on winning games at the team level.

Q: Moving forward, do you have any individual goals for yourself?

A: I just want to keep trying to continue to help out with the team’s success.
