Ah, college: four years of crazy shenanigans and higher education. With a brand new wave of freshmen, orientation week and of course Halloween, this quarter may have been the craziest yet. So take a seat around this metaphorical campfire and hear some of DU’s finest sophomores regale us with their fall quarter adventures.

Name: Michaele Waltz

Major: Psychology

“We were invited to a party a couple weeks into the quarter. It started in the afternoon but for some reason we figured it would go late into the night. When we finally showed up, practically everyone had cleared out, but we saw they’d put up a bouncy castle and slip ‘n’ slide in the backyard. So I did what any rational co-ed would do, and slip and slid fully clothed in forty degree weather. I regret nothing.”

Major: Political Science

“We were walking home late one night when I happened to look up into a tree and spotted a pair of glowing eyes staring back at me. I told my friends to stop walking so we could investigate and when we turned our phone flashlights on, we saw it was a raccoon. This excited me a great deal and I decided I should take a picture. Well, after the first flash, he slowly started to make his way down the tree, obviously signaling that he wanted to make friends. But for some reason, the third flash aggravated [him] and the next thing I knew he’d flung himself to the ground so we took off running. Now, I don’t want to sound anti-raccoon, but it is hard for me to trust them now.”

“It was like, one in the morning and we were walking to Illegal Pete’s when I decided I needed to take a walk by myself for some reason. So, I covertly separated from the pack and before I knew it, without meaning to, I had walked all the way to Washington Park. I ended up making friends with a homeless man named Jeffrey who shared his pretzels with me. I woke up the next day with pockets full of pretzels, and no shoes. I’ve since concluded that I must have donated my shoes to Jeffrey.”

Name: Melissa Witt

Major: Communications

“It was Halloween weekend. I met a cute guy every night—on Thursday I met a guy dressed up as a firefighter, Friday a police officer and Saturday a lifeguard. I couldn’t believe my luck… I didn’t realize until Saturday when I went to put my number in the lifeguard’s phone and saw that I already had—twice, that it was the same guy every night who had just been changing his facial hair up.”
