The DU women’s soccer team lost their final exhibition game of the spring season on April 18. The University of Nebraska downed the Pioneers of 3-0.

Sophomore midfielder Brooke Boothe (Ontario, California) gave her thoughts on how the exhibition game went.
“I think we played pretty well for the most part. We came out hard from the beginning and worked well as a team. We made a few poor mistakes which led to goals against, but this was definitely our best spring game as a team,” Boothe said.

It had been a busy week for the team, as they also played two games on April 12. The Pioneers played exhibition matches against Colorado State University and University of Northern Colorado, two fun matches to gauge where the team is at against quality competition. DU lost to Colorado State and tied Northern Colorado 0-0.

“We did some things really well that we’ve been working on these past few weeks, and kept a good attitude the whole way through. This was a good way to end the spring season, and I think we have a really good foundation for fall next year,” Boothe said.

The team is coached by Jeff Hooker, who is in his 24th season of coaching. He took over the DU program in 1992. In his first 22 seasons with the team, he posted at least eight wins each year.

From 2006 to 2013, the women’s team has an incredible record of 138-29-14 overall with an equally impressive 71-7-5 in-conference record. In 2012, the team made history by advancing to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament which was the first time in school history.

The team will also be led by three 2016 seniors Taylor Ivins (West Haven, Utah), Stella Norman (Lakewood, Colorado) and goalkeeper Tina Vargas (Issaquah, Washington).
