Based on Kurt Eichenwald’s book, “The Informant!” tells the life story of Mark Whitacre, executive vice president for Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), who goes undercover as an FBI agent for nearly three years to unearth what became one of the biggest price-fixing scandals in U.S. history.

The movie stars Matt Damon as Mark Whitacre “the Informant!” Scott Bakula as FBI agent Brian Shepard, Joel McHale as FBI agent Bob Herndon and Melanie Lynskey as Whitacre’s wife Ginger Whitacre.

Set in the early 1990’s in Decatur, Ill., Mark Whitacre seems like your average all-American dad with a beautiful wife and two kids.

He graduated with a PhD in nutritional biochemistry from Cornell, has a well paying job in the BioProducts division at ADM and is on his way to living a long, fulfilling life.

However, there is more to the picture than meets the eye. Whitacre confesses to FBI agent Shepard the truth about what goes on at ADM.

Then eagerly agrees to wear a wire and carry a tape recorder in his briefcase while acting as a de facto secret agent to take down the very multi-billion dollar company he works for.

It quickly becomes apparent that Whitacre is not keeping his story straight with the FBI, making it nearly impossible to figure out what is real and what is a product of Whitacre’s colorful imagination.

From its obscure plot and hilarious dialogue to the quirky 007 James Bond 80’s music, this dark R-rated comedy-thriller will have you in tears.

With a lie that spirals completely out of control, Damon’s performance is absolutely brilliant. Although dragging in parts, Director Steven Soderberg does a phenomenal job at keeping the boring, lagging scenes to a minimum and only inserting them to keep the story line in tact. This movie is a must see for people who love witty humor and comedians at their best.
